My First Drone: Finally Taking Flight

Okay, so I finally bought my first drone.

It actually took me a very long time to get into drones. For one, I rarely had situations where I could realistically use one. Back then, autonomous features weren’t as mature as they are now, and honestly, the cost made me hesitate even more. The idea of losing an expensive device mid-flight—or crashing it somewhere inaccessible—just felt too painful to justify the purchase.

But this time, things were different.

In terms of cost, portability, and usability, the DJI Neo 2 really stood out to me. Its autonomous features were good enough to be genuinely useful, and the drone itself is compact and easy to carry—perfect for something I could bring along on my bike touring adventures. The simplicity of use was exactly what I was looking for, so I finally decided to take the plunge.

I ended up buying the FMC combo, exactly as shown in the image.

First Impressions

I was genuinely amazed by the image quality this little drone produces, especially considering its size. On top of that, its autonomous capabilities exceeded my expectations. That said, I won’t lie—I was still pretty nervous about using it at first.

Before even launching it, I spent a good amount of time watching YouTube videos and reading the manual. (Yes, I always read the manual—especially when there’s information that YouTube doesn’t cover 😄.)

Maiden Flight

Eventually, I felt confident enough to go ahead with my maiden flight. Everything went smoothly, and seeing the drone in action for the first time was incredibly satisfying.

Below are some sample shots I captured along the way.
